Submersible Well Pumps
These submersible deep-well pumps are placed deep within a well and pump water up through a conduit connected to one end of the pump. They are long, cylinder-shaped devices that are submerged in water and allow water to flow more easily through the pipe system due to the water pressure. Pumps provide a steady supply of water even during dry seasons, and because they are submerged in water, they do not require priming. They're connected to a tank to maintain a more steady water pressure. Pumps are more effective for deep wells since they can reach several hundred feet deeper than jet pumps, which can only go up to 120 feet. Two-wire pumps feature controls "in the motor" and connect directly to the water system pressure switch or power source, eliminating the need for a control box. Pumps should not be used in areas with abrasives or thick water scale. Between the pressure switch and the pump motor, three-wire pumps require an above-ground control box (not provided). They have motors with strong starting torque, which can aid in loosening mineral deposits that may attach to the pump's working parts.
