Parting and Grooving Inserts
To remove sections of material or add grooves to workpieces, indexable parting and grooving inserts attach to a compatible toolholder or cut-off blade in a lathe or CNC turning machine. The inserts can have one or more cutting edges, and they can be replaced with new ones of the same or a different style that is compatible with the toolholder or cut-off blade without having to remove it from the machine. When the old cutting edge dulls, inserts with several edges can be moved (indexed) to expose a new one. In high-volume metalworking and fabrication applications with high speeds, large feeds, and difficult-to-machine materials, indexable parting and grooving tools need fewer tool changes than solid tools.
