HID Lamps and Bulbs
HID and LED HID-replacement light bulbs and lamps produce a large amount of light and may be left on for long periods of time. They are used to light huge, open areas in streetlights, gymnasium lights, stadium lights, warehouse lights, parking garage lights, and other applications. A fixture with a ballast that regulates the voltage delivered to the bulb is required for these bulbs. Standard HID bulbs emit light in all directions and are commonly used in fixtures with a reflector to assist guide the light where it is needed. LED HID bulbs are more energy efficient and require less frequent replacement than regular HID lamps. They only emit light in one direction. In order to maximize the performance and life of HID bulbs, they must be mounted in the operating position advised by the manufacturer. Some bulbs may explode if they are installed in the improper operating position.
