Drill Presses

Shop drill presses are stationary drilling devices that drill holes in workpieces by rotating bits held in a vertically mounted drill head and driving them downward. They support work on the table below the drill head and provide more consistent alignment than handheld drills, resulting in more accurate holes. Shop drills can ream, countersink, counterbore, tap, or conduct other holemaking activities depending on the type of bits employed. Metal manufacturing, machining, maintenance, and woodworking applications all employ them. Bits are often spun at low speeds with high torque in drill presses for metal workpieces. Bits are often spun at high speeds with low torque in drill presses for wood workpieces.
