Indexable Boring Bars

Indexable boring bars are single-point cutting tools that size, straighten, and polish the inside of drilled or cast holes with replaceable inserts. They attach to a lathe or turning machine and remain motionless as the machine turns the workpiece against the cutting tip of the boring bar. The inserts are seated at the cutting tip and can be replaced with new ones of the same or a different style that are compatible with the boring bar without having to remove the boring bar from the machine. Each insert will feature numerous cutting edges, allowing it to be turned (indexed) to reveal a new cutting edge when the previous one becomes dull. In high-volume metalworking and manufacturing applications with high speeds, high feeds, and difficult-to-machine materials, indexable boring bars need fewer tool changes than solid tools.
