Turning Inserts
Three equal-length sides form three cutting locations with 60° nose angles on triangle (T) turning inserts. In mild roughing and finishing applications, they're utilized to make longitudinal cuts, turn, face, and chamfer. These indexable inserts attach to a tool holder that is suitable with a lathe or CNC turning machine. When the old cutting edge dulls, they can be rotated (indexed) to expose a new one. Without removing the tool holder from the machine, they can be replaced with new compatible inserts of the same or a different style. In large-volume metalworking and manufacturing applications with high speeds, high feeds, and difficult-to-machine materials, indexable turning tools require fewer tool changes than solid tools.
