Central Equipment

HVAC systems that employ ductwork to deliver heat and air conditioning from a single furnace or cooling unit to several rooms require central heating and cooling equipment to maintain, repair, and replace components. HVAC professionals are usually the ones who install and service this central equipment. Furnaces burn natural gas or another fuel to generate heat for central heating. Central air conditioners, split system air conditioners, and heat pumps all have air handlers, condensing units, and evaporator coils.
