Tongue Depressors

Tongue depressors keep a patient's tongue down during an examination, allowing a clear view of the neck, teeth, and rear of the mouth. They can also be used as splints for fingers and spatulas for mixing and applying drugs. Tongue depressors, also known as tongue blades, are composed of smooth wood that does not splinter or split. In surgical settings, individually wrapped sterile tongue depressors are appropriate.
