Electric Winches
Electric winches are motorized pulling appliances that use less effort than human winches to move heavy items or tow automobiles. They have a line that links to the load and a motor that turns a drum to wind in the line and draw the weight toward the winch. They are designed for intermittent operation. During pulls, a minimum of five wraps of line around the drum are required by industry safety regulations. With up to two full layers of line wrapped on the drum, winches maintain their load capacity, but capacity diminishes with each additional layer. Horizontal pulling or towing of loads is done with electric winches rated for pulling. Loads can be pulled horizontally or lifted and lowered vertically using electric winches rated for pulling and lifting. A vehicle's battery is usually used to power DC winches. AC winches are powered by plugging them into a wall outlet.
