Medium Voltage Fuses
Medium-voltage fuses and fuse cutout connections safeguard medium-voltage transformers, feeder circuits, motor circuits, and fused switches from overcurrent at voltages more than 600VAC. They meet the design guidelines of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The fuses are current-limiting fuses that disconnect circuits before they are exposed to the full magnitude and duration of an overcurrent, preventing electrical harm. E-rated fuses are used for general-purpose applications, R-rated fuses are used for backup applications, and PT-rated fuses are used to protect potential transformers. The fuse cutout links are expulsion fuses that limit the time but not the amplitude of an overcurrent. Fast-acting Type K links safeguard capacitors or transformers, while slow-acting Type T connections protect lines by coordinating with relays.
